America's Black Holocaust Museum
"America’s Black Holocaust Museum was founded in 1988 in a Milwaukee, Wisconsin storefront by Dr. James Cameron, the only known survivor of a lynching. In 1992 Cameron acquired a spacious free-standing building, which he renovated and opened on Juneteenth Day 1994 with expanded exhibits and staff.
The museum attracted many local, national, and international visitors. Many took guided tours led by “griots” (docents) who interpreted the exhibits and promoted dialogue with and among visitors.
Dr. Cameron also spoke daily with most visitors about his survival experience – making for a very special encounter with living history. "

Sherman Phoenix
"In 2016, violent unrest broke out in the Sherman Park neighborhood of Milwaukee after a fatal police shooting rocked the community.
In the weeks following, community conversations identified the need for safe, welcoming neighborhood spaces, and certain leaders in the community decided to take matters into their own hands in order to foster change. In the hopes of moving forward — the idea for the Sherman Phoenix was born.
The Sherman Phoenix transformed the fire-damaged BMO Harris Bank building located at the eastern gateway to the Sherman Park neighborhood into a high-quality space for small businesses of color offering diverse foods, wellness services, and cultural activities. Updates to the neighborhood include much-needed community spaces to curate art exhibits, film showings, and cultural events.
Rising from the ashes and harnessing the spirit and assets of the neighborhood as a catalyst for unity, this is the Sherman Phoenix."

Findley Foundation Inc
"The Findley Foundation was founded by concerned individuals who work in the Construction, Finance, and Non-Profit; Political and Public Service Sectors. It was through the groups shared passion for economic development, education, and assisting the community that they formed the Findley Foundation. In their discussions, they discovered that a key component of improving the economic quality of life for many— lies in the development of quality workforce solutions that provide a combination of work readiness training, soft skills, and financial literacy education. However, as the foundation's members began to craft their mission and assess the needs of the community they realized that many people were disadvantaged, unemployed, or underemployed because they didn’t have access to the supportive services they needed to acquire to sustain gainful employment."

The Q
"Mr. Thomas Ashley, Jr. took the leap of faith to leave his job of nine years at A.O. Smith in 1961 to begin “Ashley’s Drive-In Barbecue” at 1501 West Center Street. His slogan, “When better Bar-B-Q is made, I will make it” reflected the dedication Thomas put into his barbeque “hobby.” Now, fast-forwarding to 2014, the legacy continues with his son, Darnell, who currently owns Ashley’s Bar-B-Q. Darnell proudly shares with you the same recipe and passion that his father developed over 50 years ago."

Project Hope Inc.
"Project Hope, Inc. began as an undergraduate research project wherein Dr. Hendricks identified an unmet need in the 53206 zip code. She planned and implemented a summer enrichment program at the Church of the Living God, CWFF for children that provided tutoring and free hot meals during the summer of 2000 through the assistance of dedicated volunteers. Students received tutoring from Springfield College’s undergraduate students. They were also provided a hot breakfast, a morning snack, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack through a partnership with the Social Development Commission (SDC). This research project led this group to file for Articles of Incorporation from the State of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institution in 2001. Project Hope, Inc., was incorporated on April 24, 2001, as a not-for-profit, community-based organization committed to improving the lives of needy families in Milwaukee, with the assistance of dedicated volunteers. Project Hope’s vision was to provide educational programs and free meals to all participants regardless of race, creed, color, sex, age, disability, or national origin."
